Social media screenshots are easy to fabricate. Here are the key things to check before sharing or believing one.

Look for font and formatting inconsistencies. Fake screenshots often have subtle differences in font weight, spacing, or button layout compared to genuine posts.

Cross-check the date and context. Does the claimed date match other events? Was the person even active on the platform that day?

See if credible outlets reported it. If a post is newsworthy, journalists will have covered it. No coverage is a strong signal the post may be fake.

Do a reverse image search. Use Google Images or TinEye to check if the screenshot has appeared elsewhere, and in what context.
